Tianjin University News: Ma Yinchu School of Economics and China Academy of Energy, Environmental and Industrial Economics Established

On December 24, 2017, the Ma Yinchu School of Economics and the China Academy of Energy, Environmental and Industrial Economics at Tianjin University were established.

Named after Tianjin University (TJU) alumnus Ma Yinchu, who is a most respected economist in China, the Ma Yinchu School of Economics is a school which meets international practice and is of a high standard.

The China Academy of Energy, Environmental and Industrial Economics is a university-level research platform supported by the Ma Yinchu School of Economics. The Academy focuses on academic research and policy consultation on energy economics, environment and climate change economics, and industrial economics.

Attendance at the founding ceremony included TJU Party Secretary Li Jiajun and TJU President Zhong Denghua, Professor Zhang Zhongxiang, a distinguished Professor of the National “Thousand Talent Program”, Dean of the Ma Yinchu School of Economics as well as of the China Academy of Energy, Environmental and Industrial Economics, and Professor Lin Yifu, Director of the Center for New Structural Economics of Peking University and Honorary Dean of the National School of Development of Peking University, among others.

Professors Li Jiajun, Zhong Denghua, Zhang Zhongxiang, and Lin Yifu together unveiled the plaque of the Ma Yinchu School of Economics.

Professors Zhong Denghua, Lin Yifu, Zhang Wei, Director of the College of Management and Economics at Tianjin University, and Zhang Zhongxiang jointly unveiled the plaque commemorating the establishment of the China Academy of Energy, Environmental and Industrial Economics.

After the founding ceremony, the second session of the Ma Yinchu Memorial Economics Lecture Series was held. Professor Lin Yifu gave a lecture “From China’s miracle to the new structural economics”. In the lecture he analyzed the development of China’s economic development, current situation and the concept of new structural economics he put forward. He then elaborated on the reasons behind the long-term rapid development of China’s economy, the cost of China’s economic restructuring and its referential significance to other countries, as well as the implementation of the new structural economics.
